GSS is the grant for greening your business and cutting your running costs at the same time. It funds renewable energy, recycling mechanisms, water treatment, anti-pollution measures, energy conservation and getting set up to environmental management system (EMS) standards.

The grant pays 80% of the approved cost, with category caps of Rs 50,000, Rs 130,000, Rs 200,000 and Rs 250,000 depending on project size. You fund the remaining 20%. For something like an energy-conservation upgrade, that can pay back through lower bills over time.

To qualify you need a registered SME with a valid trade licence, at least 51% Mauritian-national shareholding, turnover under Rs 100M, and to be CSG-compliant.

Watch out for this

Watch out for the difference between a business energy project and a home one. The scheme is for your registered business, so the spend has to sit with the company, not your household.
