ABS is the SME Mauritius grant built specifically for agri-businesses. It funds food processing, hydroponics and aquaponics set-ups, utility connections, agricultural implements, smart-agriculture technology and soil testing. If you grow, rear or process food and want to modernise, this is your scheme.
The grant pays 80% of the approved cost, with category caps of Rs 50,000, Rs 130,000, Rs 200,000 and Rs 250,000 depending on the size of your project. You fund the remaining 20%.
To qualify you must be an agricultural enterprise, registered as an SME with a valid trade licence, with at least 51% Mauritian-national shareholding, turnover under Rs 100M, and CSG-compliant. This one is sector-specific: non-agri businesses should look at TINNS or the other schemes instead.
Apply online at smemu.com/schemes. A simple plan showing how the equipment or technology lifts your yield or quality strengthens the case.
Watch out for this
Watch out for the agri-only rule. If your activity sits on the trading or retail side rather than genuine agriculture or food processing, ABS will not be the right fit.
