At a glance
Register at nsdp.hrdc.mu to host an unemployed trainee for a 3 to 12 month classroom-plus-workplace placement. HRDC pays the trainee a monthly stipend of about Rs 8,000, giving you a pre-screened, partly trained hiring pipeline at no wage cost.
NSDP gives you a way to bring in and trial new people without paying their stipend. The HRDC trains unemployed people and places them with employers, and the State, not you, pays their allowance during the placement.
What you get: a trainee for a 3 to 12 month placement that mixes classroom training and time in your business. HRDC pays the trainee a monthly stipend, shown as Rs 8,000 on the live portal. An increase to Rs 10,000 was announced in Budget 2026-27, so confirm the current figure with the HRDC.
This is effectively a free, partly trained hiring pipeline. You invest your time mentoring, and if the trainee fits you can hire them at the end.
To take part, register your enterprise as a host at nsdp.hrdc.mu and set out the kind of placement you can offer.
Watch out for this
Watch out for the trainee profile: it is aimed at unemployed people up to Diploma level (18 and over for construction), so degree holders are generally not covered here. For graduates, look at GTES instead.
